Dear Carlos Miller,
I watched a video of you getting roughed up by pretend cops. I am pretty sure this isn’t the first one of these I’ve seen you starring in, but I could be wrong. There’s really not many videos out there with white guys getting a beat down by the police (pretend or otherwise), so the few there are tend to merge together in my mind until all I see is the jackboot of oppression standing on the neck of your average white guy. As bad as you think you have it though, I want to point out it could be worse. You could be black! Those guys have it rough. The cops go after them for no reason at all! They don’t even have to be filming anything for some officer of the law to start beating on one. Maybe things are different in Florida, but I watched a video of a black kid named John J. McKenna getting beat by Maryland cops for —near as I can tell— skipping! Now, I hate skippers as much as the next guy, but can you imagine getting beaten for skipping? There’s no Constitutional protections for skipping. One minute you’re having a good time, next thing you know cops on horses are beating your ass!
Were you skipping just prior to the camera rolling in your latest video? This doesn’t excuse things if you were, but I know we’ve all felt the desire to put a good beatdown on someone that’s skipping, but in a civilized society you can’t just go hurting people because they are happier than you are. You should reflect on these things next time feel the need to be taking pictures in a public place. My advice: only take pictures while there are black people around. The cops will be sure to leave the white guy alone then! Well, unless you are skipping.
Sincerely,
Christopher L. Jorgensen
