Dear Red Cross,

I wanted to send something along to make someone’s life easier, but I don’t really have a lot to send along. In fact, I wish I was on the receiving end of the ease for once if you know what I mean (you probably don’t)!

A long time ago, I read an article, about how after hurricane Andrew blew through, the Red Cross put out a call for donations of items, and was inundated with tweezers and hammers and such, when what they really needed was cold hard cash! Well, it would be pretty hard to put a hammer in with this letter so I am including $5 instead. You can buy whatever you want with it.

My main reason for writing is I was wondering with the popularity of “True Blood” and “Twilight” if you’ve seen an uptick in people wanting to make blood withdrawals? Seems there’s blood everywhere I look these days! (This just means I watch too much TV, but I love “Dexter!”) I can’t help but think, with the popularity of these shows, there has to be an artificial demand for blood these days, driven by all the hype!

Sincerely,

Christopher L. Jorgensen

Dear Christopher Jorgensen,

Your donation to the American Red Cross translates into clean water for survivors of the earthquakes in Haiti, shelter for families whose homes were destroyed by tornadoes in the United States, CPR and first aid training for community members.  Thank you for your gift of $5.00 on September 14, 2010 that is helping us serve our nation and our world where the needs are greatest.

Today, 185 families will receive assistance in the wake of a disaster, 422 service men and women will communicate with their loved ones at home and 21,000 people will receive a lifesaving blood donation.  The Red Cross can continue to offer the signature services millions rely on every year because of generous donors like you.  Your gift ensures that we have the resources, talent and ability to help people prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

Thank you again for your contribution that allows us to change lives down the street, across the country and around the world.  if you would like to learn more about how your contribution will help, please visit redcross.org or call 1-800-797-8022.
