Dear Amos E. Orcutt,
I’m trying to find out if you’ve somehow managed to pull off one of the grandest internet hoaxes ever! Tons of newspaper articles refer to you as president of the “Maine Whoopie Pie Association.” A simple internet search reveals that you are in actuality the president of the “University of Maine Foundation.” There’s a big difference between those two titles!
I find people that go by first name, middle initial, last name, to generally be a bit shifty, so right off the bat you’re suspect. Add to this that I can find no website relating to the “Maine Whoopie Pie Association,” and things aren’t looking good.
So is this something you’ve made up? Because if so, my hat’s off to you, sir! If it’s true, that you are president of such an association, and that you are indeed advocating to make the whoopie pie the official state dessert, then fact is weirder than fiction.
It’s a sad fact that I’ve never eaten a whoopie pie. I’d offer to trade you, but I don’t think you’d want the kind of pie Iowa is famous for (cow pies!). Besides, I doubt there would be a way to get a whoopie pie all the way from Maine to Iowa and have it still be worth eating, but if you felt compelled you could send me one all the same. I’ll send you back something.
If you want, you can also tell people you are the President of the “Christopher L. Jorgensen Foundation.” Just slip me a bit of cash every now and again and I’ll write you a good reference letter. I’ll even tell people that the “Maine Whoopie Pie Association” is real.
Sincerely,
Christopher L. Jorgensen
