An Unanswered Letter to Representative Dennis J. Kucinich

Dear Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich,

I’m trying to do my part in insuring Charles Bukowski gets a commemorative U.S. postal stamp! He’s a kickass writer, and since you’re a kickass Congressman, I figured you were the “go to” man on this one. Too many other men in Washington will fear supporting this idea, since Bukowski was a womanizer and drank a lot. Lesser men will be afraid of suggesting Bukowski deserves a stamp. Remember, these are lesser men, and will fear people suspect they are supporting a womanizing drunk! I’d suggest the only ones who need feel this way are womanizing drunks, but that’s just my take.

If you’ve never read Bukowski, well, then I suggest you start with “Factotum,” or if poetry is your bag, then give “Septuagenarian Stew” the once over. I also dig “Love is a Dog From Hell,” and I save the best for last, “Post Office” (though I have to admit the reason I like “Post Office” so much was because I read it when I was 13 or so and it had plenty of sex).

Let’s get this done! Let’s get Bukowski on a stamp. I figure we can’t get you on one since you’re not dead, but since Bukowski is, there’s nothing stopping us! There’s no more deserving than he Bukowski! Well, except for Helen Keller, but she already has several stamps.

Sincerely,

Christopher L. Jorgensen

p.s. I don’t expect you to remember, but we’ve met twice. I shook your hand at the Iowa State fair in 2000, and four years later I talked to you and your wife at my work. If you had gotten the nomination either time I would have voted for you!
