An Unanswered Letter to Jimmy John’s

Dear Jimmy John’s,

when I order a sandwich I kind of expect it’ll be done right. I mean making a sandwich isn’t hard…I do it all the time at home! So imagine my surprise when after visiting your downtown Ames, Iowa, location yesterday, I unwrapped my sandwich and found it all screwed up!

Maybe I could understand if it had been one of the harder sandwiches, but I ordered a #6 vegetarian, “No lettuce. No tomato.” That’s what I said to the guy at the cash register. He turned to the girl making it and said the same damn thing. Pretty easy right? It doesn’t even have a meat on it.

Apparently not.

What good is a cheese, mayo, and avocado paste sandwich (even if the avocado paste is yummy)? Who would eat this? I didn’t get what I paid for and now I’m home. If I had cucumbers and sprouts I could correct the error, but I don’t. The reason I buy sandwiches from you is that they are usually better than what I can make. Yours are superior to mine probably due to your rigorous sandwich making training program, but this one wasn’t up to even the lowest standards.

Sincerely,

Christopher L. Jorgensen

p.s. I’m willing to forgive you if you send me your recipe for avocado paste, since once I have that down I won’t need anyone to make a sandwich for me ever again!
